Troop Holiday Packing Party

If you know me, you know of my involvement with our Blue Star Mothers, Miami Valley Chapter and all that we do to support our military.  With the holidays – it is even more important for our organization to send a little token of our gratitude, filled with holiday cheer and lots of LOVE!  This event is our top packing party of the year and brings so much joy for us to fill those stockings, for the community to provide donations for the cause and for our military to open the unexpected “gift”.  We THANK YOU for helping us to continue this part of our Mission, and I am HONORED to be able to assist in sharing their story.

Help Your Community

Let’s get in a Giving Mood for November!

One way to help is to get involved in volunteering.  There are many different areas for volunteering like mentoring a young person, visiting someone in a hospital, working on community projects, or working in a charity shop.

Another way is to support local businesses by telling friends and family about your favorite one, follow them on social media, and / or leave positive reviews.  Anything helps, even a small gesture can go a long way!

Donating is always a good way to help out.  Go around your house and find the things that you have been thinking about getting rid of or things that you have always thought caused clutter and take them to charity shops.  There is also the option to donate money.  There are many organizations that accept money donations.  Blood donation is also an option for those that can.

Helping out in any way is good for you and everyone around you!  Let’s give to others this month and be thankful that we can!

Rebuilding Together Dayton

Rebuilding Together Dayton

Volunteers will be out working on about 30 homes across the Dayton area this year to provide $250,000 worth of improvements to homes in need. This is the annual project that brings all the volunteers together in a concentrated effort to make a difference for those selected. Area neighborhood groups, churches, corporations, city housing inspectors as well as individuals all nominate the homes for consideration of the repairs. The criteria is for the home to be OWNED, with a household income less than 80% of area median. They do give preference to those who are elderly or disabled and who have lived in the home for at least 10 years. If you have not seen the true benefit to this program, you may want to take a moment : By working with the volunteers and through the donation of materials they are able to take $1 and make it equal the work of $4. The services they provide are at NO COST to the homeowner and can be simple fixes to more extensive structural repairs. The Neighbor Care service for urgent modifications (wheelchair ramps, handrails) offered by skilled trades people. Other programs include Heroes at Home and Lead Safe for Kids’ Sake. Our area program is one of 5 in the state of Ohio and anyone who has benefited from their service would tell you it is much needed.
