Centerville

One of the Southern suburbs to the Dayton area – Centerville continues to grow and develop thanks to the easy commute via I-75 and 675 interchanges. State Route 48, in parts known as Far Hills and / or S Main Street is a major roadway that can literally be a scenic drive from one end of the far Northern to the far Southern communities that make up Dayton. (Granted, that drive will take you a bit longer – but it is rich in history and fun!)

Centerville is an area known for the Schools and Sports and all the “ELKS” pride that a community can muster. If you have a child that is looking for a sports program (and you still want them to have the education to fall back on) this is a good area for you to search and perhaps call your next home.

Centerville Highway Project

If you travel on Rt 48 (Far Hills, Main Street) anywhere near the 675 interchange, you know how confusing the traffic pattern can be! It appears the City Council has now approved to a $1 million project to add 2 turn lanes at 48 and Alex-Bell. Which will also relocate the northbound ramp from its current location. There’s only about 20 or so lanes of traffic at this particular intersection – so I suppose a couple extra won’t hurt? At least there are plans for overhead signs to help provide direction for everyone, in the meantime – enjoy the lanes without construction (and look for alternate routes later.)

Centerville-Wide Garage Sale

Spring has sprung and everyone is getting that “cleaning” feeling – which is a great time to have a Garage Sale! Centerville will again have their citywide Sale beginning Thursday, May 1st thru Saturday, May 3rd from 8-5. Look for the signs and you’ll find some great deals as many residents participate in this event. One of the few times driving around in the car may actually SAVE you money! (Residents remember, if the items don’t sell – instead of packing them back in the house – DONATE. There will also be the bulk item pickup available with your regular trash service May 5-8.)

Centerville – Washington Township Merger?

Doesn’t look like this is passing any time soon! It seems the “big meeting” held on March 31st left a lot more questions and still more concerns for residents as officials really hadn’t prepared for the full scope of merger details. Clearly, there is a lot to be considered when two distinct areas decide to join forces as one – but if you can’t answer the basic questions of who will pay more or who will pay less for the merger – then how can you expect residents to vote? The city offers more financial information through a link on their website and the video is suppose to be available for viewing as well – and yes, you can always call Washington Township of Centerville government offices to ask your questions. Just the increase cost for Police coverage sounds a bit costly and how does that NOT relate to more property taxes for everyone? So it was left that petitions will be sought to determine if a study for the merger should begin and voters can decide on the November ballot. Good thing this is a Presidential Year as that means we’ll have more people turning out to vote and we can get a real sense as to what the residents of both Washington Township and Centerville want!
