This is an area that is near and dear to my heart! I can honestly say I was “born” a resident of the Oregon District. My mom lived in an apartment located at Sixth and Brown at the time I was born. This was actually unknown to me – until many years later when I moved into the Oregon District. Newcom Park was a central part of the community and when the gazebo was built/completed in 1985, I thought it only fitting to be among the first to be married in the park setting. And then a couple years later, my first son was also brought home to our house in Oregon District (and so the cycle of life continued!)
Of course, the Oregon District is probably most known for the Fifth Street bars / clubs and what use to be the open drink venue. Times have changed, many of the “old” bars are gone – but there is still a great number of activities and social gatherings that take place here. But what may be of greater importance is the architecture and history so many of the homes (and businesses) actually offer. Certainly an area of varying tastes, there is something for everyone – and always good for a social evening out.
As a side note, when asked where to go for “good seafood” Jay’s Restaurant is absolutely what I recommend. Located just off Patterson Road on Sixth Street, parking can be tough – but it is a dinner that is well worth any effort. Great for a special night out – or just for the seafood lover. I’d also recommend the Dublin Pub (although technically not really in the Oregon District, it sits on the South East corner of Fifth Street and Wayne Avenue) and worth walking across the block! The Irish atmosphere is good for those who enjoy an ale or fish dinner and the music is entertaining.

Known as the “Birthplace of Aviation” – home of the Wright Brothers, Dayton, Ohio is rich in history, tradition and value! The use of “Dayton” as the city in which you live, has far surpassed the boundaries of many communities and is truly what makes living here open to possibilities for so many people. Within a 30 minute commute, you can literally be from one end to the other of the city limits and yet cross through a wide variety of spectrum for living within each of those communities. While the term “Dayton” seems to be all encompassing – it is in fact, a distinct area of town that in its own “wright” has many things to be proud to offer you as a resident.
Downtown Dayton is a hub of activity for business during the week and weekend activities for all to enjoy. Fifth Third Ballpark is home to the Dayton Dragons and is great family enjoyment for a game of baseball. If you are looking for an evening “out on the town” performing arts may just the answer; with the Schuster Center and Victoria Theatre you are sure to find entertainment.

Everyone always asks, “How are the Schools?” Like most states, Ohio does have the Annual Standardized Testing they perform and ratings are posted for each of the schools / districts. The best thing to do is check out the most recent report at the Ohio Department of Education’s site (click on link) http://ilrc.ode.state.oh.us/
This will not only give you information that is most current (or previous years of information) about the district but also specific to each building. If you are unsure about what school a particular property may be designated to attend, I will assist you in finding out from the school or transportation department for that area.

If you travel on Rt 48 (Far Hills, Main Street) anywhere near the 675 interchange, you know how confusing the traffic pattern can be! It appears the City Council has now approved to a $1 million project to add 2 turn lanes at 48 and Alex-Bell. Which will also relocate the northbound ramp from its current location. There’s only about 20 or so lanes of traffic at this particular intersection – so I suppose a couple extra won’t hurt? At least there are plans for overhead signs to help provide direction for everyone, in the meantime – enjoy the lanes without construction (and look for alternate routes later.)

Doesn’t look like this is passing any time soon! It seems the “big meeting” held on March 31st left a lot more questions and still more concerns for residents as officials really hadn’t prepared for the full scope of merger details. Clearly, there is a lot to be considered when two distinct areas decide to join forces as one – but if you can’t answer the basic questions of who will pay more or who will pay less for the merger – then how can you expect residents to vote? The city offers more financial information through a link on their website and the video is suppose to be available for viewing as well – and yes, you can always call Washington Township of Centerville government offices to ask your questions. Just the increase cost for Police coverage sounds a bit costly and how does that NOT relate to more property taxes for everyone? So it was left that petitions will be sought to determine if a study for the merger should begin and voters can decide on the November ballot. Good thing this is a Presidential Year as that means we’ll have more people turning out to vote and we can get a real sense as to what the residents of both Washington Township and Centerville want!
