County Auditors have the ability to REDUCE the value of properties when the properties have been damaged or destroyed. Often times, in the after math of tragic situations, people do not realize this! With the onslaught of all those tornadoes and ALL THE DAMAGE so many are now facing, we wanted to remind you of this opportunity. The REDUCED value (potential lower taxes) may last until the property is fully restored / rebuilt to its prior condition or value.
Each county will have a DIFFERENT FORM to complete, here is MONTGOMERY COUNTY and GREENE COUNTY forms.

As part of the purchase process, the Seller SHOULD call for final readings in advance of the actual closing date – and YOU, as the Buyer / New Owner will want to ensure that you don’t have to RECONNECT utilities but rather have a TRANSFER to your name to ensure services continue.
