New Health Care Bill does NOT = Tax on Sale of Home for Most

I had my neighbor run over late one evening this week, asking if I knew anything about the “new tax for selling your house in 2011.”  I hadn’t heard anything specific as to what he was mentioning – and so the digging began.  Seems there is a lot of MISINFORMATION out there concerning what the new Health Care Bill is going to cause to happen in 2011.  There IS a provision for a Sales Tax of 3.8% for Medicare Tax IF your Home Sale GAIN is higher than $250,000 for Single Person or $500,000 for Married Couple.  This gets complicated as you can imagine, CLICK HERE to see the PDF with specific answers.  But to answer my neighbor’s question – “NO, you won’t have a “new” tax to worry about if you sell your home.”

POW / MIA Recognition Day

Passing along this notice for all those who may be interested…
The third Friday of the month of September is set aside each year to pay honor and respect to those of our country’s military that have been or are prisoners of war or missing in action.   POW/MIA Recognition Day is an excellent time to also concentrate our prayers on the lives of these courageous service personnel and the families left behind who wait for them.
Lives are unimaginably changed when a loved one is held captive or is reported as missing.  Hearts and lives are comforted when they know people care and are praying for them.   Those held captive too ~ what more would they endure if they thought we didn’t remember them?
Gratefully, the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Corridor at the Pentagon was opened on September 15 of this year, presenting to the public many of the pieces that tell the story of these families and warriors.  Families of MIA and former POW themselves have given personal items and input for the development of this.
This year, will you pray with me for these families and all the others who have endured so much for our freedoms?   The date for the 2010 POW/MIA Recognition Day is Friday, September 17th.  Sadly, there have been well over 88,000 missing Americans since WW II.

Military Tax Credit – EXTENDED!

Officially, the bill for First Time Home Buyers expired and all closings from those qualified purchases are quickly coming to an end.  However, our Military men and women were given an extension to this bill.  Read some of the details from Military.com below:

This bill’s extension for military families, and active-duty servicemembers currently living overseas, is April 30, 2011 — one year longer than civilian home owners’ extension —  and will also help financially strapped military personnel by making mortgage payments tax deductible.

The new law extends the first-time homebuyer credit for individuals on “qualified official extended duty” outside the U.S. who made home purchases before May 1, 2011 (or July 1, 2011, for taxpayers with binding contracts).

Qualified official extended duty is defined as duty outside the U.S. for at least 90 days during the period beginning after Dec. 31, 2008, and ending before May 1, 2010. And, in order for married servicemembers to qualify for this extention, they must have served overseas for at least 90 days in 2009.
